In 1949, Shri.C.Rajam, founded India-Madras Institute of Technology.MIT offer courses like Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Instrument Technology,Rubber and Plastic Technology, Production Technology Computer Science and Information Technology. It was merged with Anna University in the year 1978. MIT has produced great scientist like Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, versatile genius like Sujatha and many more.The Madras Institute of Technology has developed into an important centre of engineering education and earned an excellent reputation both in India and abroad.MIT had received many awards which includes an award for the Best Overall Performance, awarded by Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) during the year 1999.
The Department of Electronics Engineering established in the year 1949 has its core strength in the area of Electronics & Communication technology. The cutting edge research areas include Communication Technologies Wireless Communication, Signal Processing, Image Processing & Pattern Recognition, Network Security, Sensor Networks, Optical Communication, and VLSI. The department is supported by DST – FIST & UGC –DRS-SAP Phase II program. The academic programs have an optimum mix of Electronics, Communication and Computer Engineering and adherence to strict quality norms in teaching and evaluation has always been the strength of the department. Students are enabled to be socially conscience and technologically skilled so as to contribute towards socially relevant technical problems of contemporary India. Students are exposed to interdisciplinary problems and encouraged to develop leadership skills.

Dr.M. Ganesh Madhan , The Head Of The Electonics Department. The Electronics Engineers Association, being one of the largest student bodies of Madras Institute of Technology, paves way for students to develop their technical intellect and skills. This is the largest department of the MIT Campus of Anna University, which has about 720 Under Graduate students and 170 Post Graduate students. The faculty and research scholars do research in the cutting edge areas which include Communication, Signal & Image Processing, Computing, Network security, Sensor Networks, Optical Communication & VLSI, Embedded System and IoT. The department has collaborative partners from academia and industry both locally and worldwide. The department has acquired state of art test and measuring instruments and electronics systems for training the students in the cutting edge areas. The department offers high quality research in the M. S. and Ph. D. Programme and is a recognized QIP centre for Ph.D. UG students are encouraged to undergo student exchange programme with European Universities.
